Member Database for Diving Club

Overview

At the request of the club chairman, I designed, developed, and operated a custom membership management system for a diving club over six years. The goal was to replace manual Excel-based workflows with a centralised web application tailored to the club’s needs.

Responsibilities

Development

Built a PHP/MySQL web application capable of importing and exporting Excel spreadsheets in club-specific formats, including custom business logic such as membership fee calculation and status management.

Data protection and security

Set up a GDPR-compliant environment for handling sensitive member data, with encrypted remote access via VPN and HTTP-Transport Security, role-based access controls, and regular backups with tested restore procedures.

Operations and support

End-to-end ownership over the full six-year lifespan, from hosting and maintenance through user training to direct support for club staff.
