App Distribution Portal
Submission portal for company-wide app distribution, built with Microsoft Power Automate and SharePoint as a virtual database in place of a SQL solution. Supports both initial submissions and incremental updates where only changed items need to be re-entered.
Overview
The goal was a central, policy-compliant submission portal for company-wide app distribution. The process was to be accelerated without bypassing any internal or external requirements. Since a SQL database was ruled out on cost grounds, a virtual relational database built on SharePoint lists was designed as the solution.
Features
Initial submission and incremental updates
App owners can submit a new application in full or submit a targeted update where only the changed items need to be re-entered. All other data remains unchanged.
Virtual database on SharePoint
With SQL unavailable on cost grounds, SharePoint was used as a transparent data layer. With structured lists, relation-like links and consistent data flows, the system works reliably for users and operators alike.
Regulatory compliance
The portal ensures that all submissions meet internal policies and external requirements such as store guidelines and corporate standards. Guided workflows and automated validations deliver consistent results throughout.
Responsibility
Service design
Continuous development of the service design in line with the company’s strategic direction, with end-user satisfaction as the central measure.
Stakeholder management
Independent coordination with all parties involved, whether developers, app owners, service architecture or management, always with the bigger picture in mind.
Interface role
Supported service architecture and service management teams in customer-facing engagements to ensure reliable delivery of relevant services.
Automation
Design, development and implementation guidance for automation solutions to improve the app submission service on an ongoing basis.
